My very first interview :)

Hi guys!

I have some cool news that I should have shared aaaaaages ago on here (I put it basically everywhere else)!!

As you may know I've recently joined the ranks of a new online  home accessories company called Kess Inhouse. I was super excited to be one of their launch artists so you can probably imagine my excitement when they wanted to publish an interview with me on their blog!!

Here I am (looking about 12) in my workspace!

And here are some of the lovely things they had to say about me!

"Aimee St. Hill is one of our wonderful launch artists. Our creative team had the pleasure of "sitting down" with Aimee via Skype a couple of weeks ago. Before the interview, I knew she lived and worked in Barbados but once the screen faded to her face and I was able to see into her studio; her beautiful, playful, tropical art made perfect sense. Talking to her was as pleasurable as flipping through her work." Read more...

Since this interview was conducted even more designs, artists and products have been added to the site! So I'm happy to announce not just the launch of my two newest designs 'Grow' and 'Painted Chevron' (pictured below)...

but also the launch of a whole new line of products...

Introducing: The Cutting Board!!!!

Cool huh?! You can find these online at kessinhouse.com or by clicking here. You can also find tons of interviews from other awesome members of the Kess team (along with the rest of mine) by clicking here. AND as if that wasn't enough there is a sale on ALL products happening ALL weekend so get over there!!! It's already Sunday, you're missing out!!!! ;)

Happy shopping! xx

3 Different Colours, 3 Different Looks!

Hello!

I'm back again with another post about colour and to introduce some of my new products (for those of you who haven't been following me on Facebook).

If you've been paying attention you'll know how much I love colour, and you may also know how much I like creating complex patterns. Sooo it seemed sensible that I base my latest print collection on something that incorporates both those elements!

Pinterest has provided me (and all of us) with inspiration from around the globe on a huge variety of subjects. I took a virtual trip to India and Morocco in search of interesting colour combinations, textiles, architecture and design.

After recovering from a sensory overload I got to designing!

I did think about combining all the products into one big, super colourful example but instead I decided I would show you three ways to achieve Indian/Moroccan fusion in your home using three different colour schemes.

Indian Jewels

This first colourway is vibrant and fun. Mix and match patterns together for an eclectic look or pair with plains to brighten up your living room, bedroom or kitchen.

Shop the products:
1) Paisley Orange Duvet                   7) Ogee Orange Quatrefoil Mirror
6) Vintage Floral Duvet

This next colourway is loaded with all the moods of blue. Use with white for a fresh, clean look or mix together for a rich, bold combination.

 Shop the products:
1) Ogee Blue Shower Curtain                     6) Damask Coasters
2) Decorative Blue Wallpaper                      7) Decorative Blue Sheet Set

An Eventful August

Hello!!

It's been such a long time since I posted anything. I feel I've been negligent but I do have a couple of pretty good excuses. I'll bring you up to speed.

I took 3 weeks off work at the end of July leading into August so I could enjoy my time in London during the Olympic Games.

My boyfriend coaches the Barbados national gymnastics team and got a whole bunch of free tickets for the events (that's totally why I'm with him by the way ;-) )

I took loads of pics on the first day. I posted the best ones to Flickr for all to see :)

I have to say, getting the chance to see any Olympic event meant so much to me but being able to watch the gymnastics was really incredible. As a fan of the sport (and ex gymnast) I was completely freaking out over the performance of our boys in the team finals! Kristian Thomas (the dude in the third picture in case you were wondering) was an absolute hero that day. I was in pieces during his floor routine and yes, I was a total nob & got all boo-hooy when they won the bronze!
It was great to feel so patriotic! Now I know why the Americans are always carrying on :-p

Aside from an incredible 7 days of events we spent a lot of time just ambling around London which was great! We did a lot of movie watching and popcorn eating, as well as some lying around in parks and sight-seeing. As always I come armed with photos.

I have to get a bit gushy about London for a minute coz I feel like I got to see it with fresh eyes this summer. It's really a fantastic place and the Olympics gave it such a great vibe. We did so much and yet there were so many other things we didn't get a chance to do!

If you're visiting London or you live in London there is one thing you really should do if you can and that's take a trip up over the o2 Arena. It's a really good way to see London and you get some exercise while you're at it!

Naturally I took photos AND as a rare treat, a video!

The view from the top is fantastic! I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for something different to do on a nice day.

It's quite a steep climb but it's not overly challenging so you can stop on your ascent and admire the scenery. It gets a bit windy but you're wearing a cozy climb suit so it's not cold and you're tethered to a handrail so it's super safe.

And the best thing is there's loads of other stuff to do inside the arena when you're done!

Anyway, (I swear I haven't taken up a weekend job advertising for the o2) the point is, I had a busy 3 weeks during the Olympic games.

Just as all the excitement had calmed and my other half had escaped to Barbados without me (sob) I had to start preparing for Premiere Vision.

P.V. is a huge textiles showcase which takes place in Paris twice a year. It is a massive selling opportunity for me so during the weeks leading up to it I generally retreat to my cave/ work space and churn out as much work as possible.

This Septembers P.V. begins on the 19th so until then my freelance work will continue to take priority.
I would really like to post images of some of the work I've done for it so far. I'm quite excited about it. Perhaps I'll find a spare 5 mins tomorrow to do so.

Despite the focus on P.V. I do have some new products on Society6 and DENY Designs so please do pop over and check them out here and here. Also be on the look out for my designs for cancer awareness month in October on denydesigns.com. It's such a great cause!

I hope this has been an adequate explanation of my absence over the past few weeks! I will endeavour to keep my updates....erm....up to date from here on out!

Ciao for now! xx

Spoonflower Weekly Contest: Mid-Century Cocktail Dress

Yes, it's that time again!

This week's contest brief was to design a fabric for a mid-century cocktail dress. The winning design will be produced and used in an up coming stage production of 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying'.

I decided to enter a recolour of my 'Pink Birds' design (which you may remember from such products as shower curtains and iPhone cases to name a few).

I'm in love with this new colour palette but understand that some voters may need a little more convincing! With this is mind I used my superior Photoshop skills to put together this mock-up of a completed dress!

Sadly my fashion illustration skills are not quite as awesome as my Photoshop skills! Please direct your praise towards Victor Stiebel for that!

This is a great contest with a really cool prize so please take the time to vote if you like my design!
To do so please click here!!!

Thank you :)

Spoonflower Weekly Contest: Stars & Stripes

I had a lot of fun creating my design for this week's Spoonflower contest so I thought I'd post the sketches!

If you're wondering what the hell kinda fabric would be covered with drawings of David Bowie I'll tell you.

This week Spoonflower challenged it's members to come up with a design using stars and stripes.
I'm sure this theme is meant to conjurer images of red, white and blue, pictures of eagles, flags and Uncle Sam; a design bursting with American patriotism. Of course there's nothing wrong with all that (especially this close to the 4th of July) but I am not in fact American. Being a non American I saw this as an opportunity to step outside the box and inject a little of my own home turf into the stars and stripes. And so I give you.......

STARDUST!!!!!

I won't exactly be making my next party dress out of it but I figured it might make a couple of cool, kitsch cushions!

If you'd like to vote for designs in this week's contest you can do so here

Albino Spring 2012

Today I had every intention of uploading another piece of a scarf design that I finished last week. Sadly though, my computer is taking a million years to load the file and I'm impatient. I guess you'll just have to wait until a time comes when I'm either less impatient (good luck) or when my computer isn't acting like a total pile of crap.

Anyway, instead of scarves I figured I'd give u fashion. I didn't upload my inspiration from last week so here it is.

These are part of a Spring 2012 collection by Albino. If you want to see the rest of it (and u should, it's yummy) please click here and please see below my attempts at recreating these looks!

Summer Animals

I've been neglecting my blog of late. I'd like to say it's been because I've been super busy with work and deadlines etc. but that would not be entirely true!! Mostly I've been busy entertaining a friend who came to visit me in Barbados. You may remember her from one of my previous posts (she's the one who loves herself ;)) Now I don't want you thinking I'm a complete bum so I have compiled some examples of my work for your viewing pleasure.

So, yea, back to animal prints! It's all Missoni's fault really. She went and designed a bunch of brightly coloured animal prints for Spring/Summer 2012. I should probably not complain, I actually quite enjoyed putting these together. :)

This week I'm supposed to be creating a set of winter designs that people would wear on vacation. I did ask if that wasn't in fact the same thing as a design for summer (what with said winter designs being brightly coloured) but I was informed that there is apparently a difference. I was not informed what this difference is but I was left to look for inspiration all day. Soooooo here is what a winter vacation to a sunny destination looks like to me........

I love this palette!! Please take a look at the complete collections on Style.com they are gorgeous! Click here for Burberry Prorsum and here for Alberta Ferretti.
